Sickness and Illness

If your child is unwell

If your child is unwell, please keep them off.  Sickness spreads round schools and preschools in no time. This affects the quality of care, as our staff end up sick as well.

We reserve the right to refuse entry to a child who we believe is too unwell to attend.

If your child becomes unwell at Teatimers

If we deem your child to be too unwell to continue, we will ask you to arrange their collection as soon as possible.  If your child is going downhill, we may contact you to give you advance warning and discuss options.

We will keep them as separate as possible from the other children.

It is important you keep us up to date with your contact details and those of your emergency contacts.

How long does my child have to stay off

We follow the government guidance for how long to keep a child off school which can be found here or on the NHS website.

Medicines

We administer medicines prescribed by a Doctor.  You will need to fill in a medication form with us before we can do this.

If your child is unwell and needs calpol to get through the day, then they are not well enough to come.  We will only administer such medicines for conditions that require pain relief (sprains, fractures etc).

We do not administer the following in any circumstances:

  • Cough medicine
  • Medicine containing aspirin (unless prescribed)
  • Homeopathic remedies

Lipsalves, emollient creams and nappy creams are fine.

Our medicines policy is intended to handle everyday situations and keep everyone safe in our care. A children with specific circimstances or long term conditions can have the appropriate medicines and care – we just need to create a healthcare plan so that everyone is clear what we are going to do.
